Before the move the client is to clearly specify which items the mover is to load and identify any difficulties the mover may encounter ( i.e. intermediate stops, second or third floor moves, long distances, elevators, stairs, etc. ) as this may affect the total cost. Make sure all arrangements are documented on the moving services contract proposal. The client is not to rely on verbal agreements. All registered movers are required to provide you with the following documents: A written proposal and signed written contract before loading the clients items A rights and responsibilities information sheet *The client is to make sure to obtain these documents before allowing loading of the items to occur. *All registered movers assume standard liability for no more than .60 cents per pound per article. Example: If a 50 lbs. television is damaged as a result of a move the mover is only required to reimburse $30. (50lbs X .60 = $30) The client is to keep in mind this is not insurance to the move, there may be additional costs associated with an increased level of liability. The client can insure their valuable items for the move separately from the coverage provided by the mover, by contacting an independent insurance company. The client is responsible for checking and documenting all items before loading (a picture is best suited). The client is to ask whether the mover will conduct an inventory. This may increase the total cost of services. Read all documents and understand all charges before the moving services contract is signed. If the client is packing their own items, pack with the appropriate boxes and do not overfill them. Label all boxes with fragile items. The client is to be sure to keep all valuables, important documents, and medications at all times. If an inventory is conducted, the client is to accompany the mover while they take the inventory. SIGN AND AGREE TO THE INVENTORY BEFORE AND AFTER THE MOVE. The client is to be available during the move to answer any questions the mover may have, or to give further instructions. All registered movers are required to obtain the client's signature on the moving services contract before loading items. The client must be sure to read the contract to assure it accurately reflects the terms the client and mover have discussed before signing. The client is responsible for assessing the location to be sure that no items are left behind. Upon delivery, the client is to supervise the unloading of the items, check the condition of the items, and notify the mover immediately if any damaged items are discovered. If damaged items are discovered, the client is to notate it on the moving services contract. A claim may be filed with the mover and must be filed within 90 days of the delivery date, and must include enough information for the mover to investigate the claim along with any specific monetary amounts requested or other solutions the client may seek. The mover has 20 days to respond, acknowledging the claim, and has 90 days to pay, deny, or make a settlement offer. If the claim involves damaged gods, the clients should preserve the containers and the damaged goods. The mover has the right to inspect any containers, or damaged goods within 30 days of receiving the claim. If the claim is not received by the mover within 90 days the claim can be denied. The client is to be prepared to pay the maximum amount listed on the written moving services contract proposal. The client is to make sure to receive a completed copy of the moving services contract upon delivery of the shipment, including an itemized billing of all charges. If an inventory was prepared, the mover is required to have the client sign the inventory at the destination point. Any alterations or deviations from above specifications involving extra cost, will be executed only upon written orders, and will become an extra charge over and above the estimate. All agreements contingent upon strikes, accidents or delays beyond our control. Owner to carry fire, tornado and other necessary insurance upon above work. Workmen's Compensation and public liability insurance on the above work to be taken out by Affordable Texas Movers. **All household goods motor carriers/movers operating within the state of Texas are required to have an active certificate of motor carrier registration and abide by the motor carrier rules and regulations under chapter 218 of title 43, Texas administrative code. This includes major van lines, as well as local movers with trucks and trailers.
